Courier Packaging Guide South Africa
Go Girl Couriers helps businesses and individuals send standard parcels across South Africa. This guide explains how to prepare your parcel for collection, with practical steps for boxes, cushioning, sealing and labels.

Use a strong outer box that suits the parcel’s weight and size. Check that the base, corners and seams are intact. A retail product box may need a separate shipping box around it. Leave enough room for protective material, without using a much larger box than the contents require.
Keep individual items from touching or moving inside the box. Wrap them separately where needed, fill empty space and protect exposed edges. Tell us about fragile or unusual contents before booking so the available service can be confirmed.
Seal and label the parcel clearly
- Close the box securely and tape the opening and base seams.
- Remove or cover old shipping labels and barcodes on reused packaging.
- Place the current label on a clear, flat surface where it can be scanned.
- Keep the delivery address, recipient name and contact number easy to read.
- Keep order paperwork inside the parcel unless the booking gives different instructions.
Measure after packing
Weigh the complete parcel, including its packaging. Measure the outside length, width and height in centimetres. These measurements matter because a bulky parcel can have a higher chargeable weight than its actual weight. Our volumetric weight guide explains the calculation.
For several boxes, record the weight and dimensions of each box. Use those details in your courier booking, rather than measuring the unpacked product alone.
These details also apply to supplier collections, retail stock transfers and packed spare parts. Confirm the finished parcel measurements with the person preparing the goods.
Check the service before collection
Choose the available service for your route and required timing. A label or “fragile” sticker does not replace protective packaging. Confirm any special handling needs before handing the parcel over.
Temperature-sensitive products need a ColdPod enquiry. Request Go Girl packaging or use a suitable insulated cooler box for the product’s temperature requirements. Standard parcel delivery does not provide temperature control.
